Peregrine Stitch and Glue Catboat Series
Peregrine Catboats: affordable and easy to build stitch-and-glue catboats
Catboats are perfect leisure sailboats. Compact, comfortable, stable and fast, they have been around for nearly two centuries. Now you can build your own catboat at home.
The Peregrine Catboat series is perfect for the amateur boatbuilder. Stitch-and-glue construction is affordable and quick, and our designs offer great accomodation for their sizes.
Peregrine Catboats are offered in three sizes: 13-foot daysailing open catboat with a marconi rig, and 16 and 19-foot cabin cruiser with a classic catboat gaff rig. Our catboats retain the classic catboat features, such as the wide beam and wide transom for more room and stability, skeg centerboard and the classic barndoor rudder. But these features have been improved with sliding centerboard that exists in the cockpit, and a balanced rudder. These features improve two issues typical of catboats: strong weather helm and cabin space, obstructed by the centerboard trunk. Our stitch-and-glue catboats have a distinct feature, the nealy flat bottom aft, which offer a planing surface for more speed downwind. A lightly loaded Peregrine 190 will sail at 7 knots downwind in a breeze.
The Peregrine catboat series was named after the Peregrine Falcon, a bird known for migrating thousands of miles from North to South America, and back Our catboats were inspired in the American catboats of Cape Cod, bred in South America, and now their plans will be available worldwide. Soon these plans will be available in our design catalog.
